My name is Susan Bird, but my friends call me Suzy. I was born in Boise, but moved around because my dad was in the military. I can remember being in kindergarten that I wanted to be a teacher when I grew up. In 2002, at the age of 31 my dream came true. I teach 6th grade World Civilizations and Science at Lake Hazel Middle School for the West Ada School District. While at Lake Hazel I have started a History Club for any sixth-eighth grader that is interested in researching an event or a time period. Last year we worked on an Egyptian museum and this year we will be tackling Ancient Greece. When I’m away from the classroom I enjoy quilting with my mom on Saturdays and spending as much time with my husband of eight years and our two cats, Minni and Dusty.
This year I was offered a new role at my school called the Digital Integration Lead. I’ve always been interested in trying to find ways to incorporate technology into my classroom, and I felt like this role would help me to add another level to my lessons. At the same time I was offered the new responsibility, I decided to go back to Boise State to get my Master’s in Educational Technology. My goal is to use what I learn through the EDTECH program in my classroom and with my new job title.
